What is Facebook jail?
Facebook Jail is when users are blocked or banned (by Facebook) from posting or engaging on the site for a determined length of time due to terms-of-service violations or spammy behavior. For multiple violations and in the most extreme cases, a user's personal profile, business page or Facebook account may be deleted entirely.

7 Tips to Avoid Being Banned from Facebook
Getting banned on Facebook or landing in Facebook jail is not something you want to experience. Especially if you are running a business and use Facebook to communication with prospects, customers, patients and clients. BEST is to avoid getting banned, penalized or booted from FB altogether. Here are 7 things to keep in mind to keep you out 0f trouble.
Create and Share Original Content
One of the quickest ways to land in Facebook jail is to posting ‘company' or ‘affiliate program' provided content which has been previously posted by dozens, hundreds, even thousands of other users… and ANY link from that domain has now been permanently banned. Or you may find yourself experiencing a temporary ban because you've shared pictures and graphics taken from Google's search results which, again, may already be banned.
- Post only original pictures.
- MASK affiliate links using affiliate link tracking/masking software.
- Avoid all MASS MARKETING routines.
Tag Friends Only When Appropriate
Tagging people who are not directly mentioned in an update or who do not appear in a photo is a quick way to find yourself in Facebook jail because the practice is regarded as SPAM and it is not appreciated by most people in the community.
It's common sense, really, because nobody likes to be tagged in a photo that they have nothing to do with.
Understand How Facebook Operates
If you intend to use Facebook extensively, read their published Terms & Condition and Community Guidelines. Most is based on common sense, copyrights and social courtesies. When it to creating accounts, there is ONE primary thing to keep in mind:
Create ONE personal account. Every human being on the planet is allowed to have only ONE personal Facebook profile. From this one personal account, a user an create an unlimited number additional business, product and community pages. Each additional page can have distinct contact information to make it easy for prospects and customers to contact you.
Don’t use the name of a business for a personal account. Personal profile pages are meant to be like a biography. A short story in the life of a real person and businesses are not persons. Instead, create your actual personal profile and from there simply create a page for your product, service, company, project, passion or income opportunity.
If you want more information on this, please review the Facebook terms and policies for both personal biographies and business pages.
Don't Act Like a Spammer
Facebook spamming involves contacting people with unwanted content or requests. This includes sending bulk messages, excessively posting links or images to people's timelines and community pages, sending friend requests to people you don't know personally and inappropriately tagging people in content you publish in an attempt to engage their audience.
All of these behaviors can threaten your Facebook account because people find spamming annoying and Facebook makes it very easy for users to report spam. For example, if you send friend requests to people who do not know you… MOST of them say “no”… which is easily determined by Facebook and, potentially, you’ll be temporarily banned as SPAMMER.
Slow Down, Don't Act Like a Spam-Bot
To avoid sent to Facebook Jail, it is a good idea to control the speed at which you like and comment on things. Like too many people too fast and Facebook can mistake the behavior for being a spam-bot and block you.
Post a Maximum of 6-8 Times Per Day
Many Facebook Community Managers recommend a maximum of 5-6 daily posts or updates per day on your personal profile. For business pages, posting only 2-3 time per week is most recommended. Saturating your followers’ timelines with incessant promotional posts which provide little… if any… real entertainment, news or informational value – is a direct invitation to getting marked as a SPAMMER.
Provide Real Contact Information
Only spammers or people with something to hide provide false, misleading or missing information about who they are, what they do and how they can be contacted. To avoid Facebook jail, publish real contact information.
Want to avoid being blocked by Facebook and sent to Facebook Jail?
- Be nice.
- Be real.
- Be honest.
- Don't pester people.
- Don't leverage people's connections.
- Don't spam.
Provide value and honestly contribute to the community and you'll be just fine.
How to Stay Out of Facebook Jail Video Transcript
Jesse Jameson: 00:03 I am someone that's been doing ads for quite some time on facebook. I've been marketing online for quite some time and there's a lot of people that are trusted with their ad dollars for a good reason. I'm just showing you a snapshot here of a single ad account that does over 5,000 a day and they've been doing this consistently for the past year or more, which is just under $3,000,000 a year and that's just one a one particular client. The point here is that my focus is on facebook and I want you to break it down into bite-sized chunks so that you can take it and actually do something with it. And so what we're going to be talking about tonight is really start with baseball news does. Now, while this is not the sexiest of topics, it's one that needs to be share. This is kind of our housekeeping and the reason this is significant is because there's so many times in the past where I've done some training and people who have taken it and gone out, but not really pay too close attention to what could get you into trouble and they'd had their ad account shut down and it's not difficult to do, especially if you're in a home based business industry and the reason for this to settle.
01:13 There were plenty of people who have not really understood the rules of engagement for facebook and have upset the balance upset facebook, and as a result, facebook won't even hesitate even fixing the gray area. It will shut your ad account down and there's people on this call who I know at their ad account shut down. I can say I've never had a client who's had their account on my watch. Get shut down and there's a reason for it. I'm going to teach you those things briefly. We're going to start with staying out of facebook jail. Now, the first thing that you must know about being in compliance with facebook is why facebook is around. Facebook is a half a trillion dollar company now, OK? They have nearly 2,000,000,000 people, which is just shy of a third of the planet's population on facebook at least once a month.
02:03 And there's a reason for that. OK? If people get out of bed, it's the first thing they do have. It's the first thing a lot of people do before they go to sleep at night. Now, for any single business to have that kind of influence, uh, that's, that's pretty special. And I assure you, they will do everything they can to defend that spot of the best that they can. So they don't go to the roadside the way that a rights-based it, right? So are, there are three reasons that people are on facebook and you must know this and everything that you do must be put through this filter, OK? Because it's the reason they're there. They're there to connect with people, they're there to share, and they're there to be entertained. That's it, OK? Nobody's showing up on facebook to solve a problem. They, they're there for these three reasons, so it's not to solve a problem and it's definitely not to buy your product or service.
02:58 Now, this doesn't mean that you aren't able to sell products and services or health equal solve problems because you absolutely are. It's just not the reason that people showed up there in the message here is you have to meet them where they're at and you have to think of facebook in terms of being a cocktail party because that's truly what it is. More so than anything else. You know, things are gonna change over time, but as it stands today, when people get on facebook, they're checking in to check out your social. The last thing that you want to do is take your business and be this guy. Let me remember. Or Alaska, the, uh, the, the guy that was on all the infomercials years ago that, uh, was promoting grant guides. It was very disruptive and, uh, it works for him and infomercials. But facebook is not an infomercial.
03:49 If you treat it like one, you will find yourself in trouble. OK, facebook is all about the user experience. That is the reason that people show up all the time and don't know. For those few that are familiar with Tony Robbins talking about the 16 needs will facebook actually meets all it needs. Certainly people know that it's going to be there when they wake up in the morning and they go on their experience and familiar enough variety. It's makes people feel significant because when they share something, people are commenting, liking, and sharing and validating them as individuals. It also provides connection and it actually meets the last year as well, which are growth and contribution and actually does all of that. You only need about four of those to make it a habit. So imagine what happens when you meet all of them and that's why it's such a significant platform.
04:38 OK, and the truth of the matter is, if you don't follow the guidelines of making facebook happy because you are contributing to the user experience, facebook will protect itself ferociously, which means I won't hesitate to shut you down. OK? The reason I'm spending so much time emphasizing this is because facebook is also the most significant at the platform on planet earth. OK? You as a Solo Preneur, as an entrepreneur, as a business owner, whether you're marketing yourself, you're marketing your brand, products and services, no matter what you're using, facebook for is a business. There is nothing else out there that can even touch it for finding highly targeted people to be exposed to what you have to offer, so you really have to get this part. Otherwise, the rest of it just simply doesn't matter. If you want to upset facebook, here's what you do, OK, well, you're only going to create ads to drive people off of facebook.
05:37 You also don't want to create ads or posts content. They get negative feedback, and within the ads manager, it's very easy to keep an eye on this by simply looking at how people are responding to your APP. A, you don't want to make unrealistic claims use before and after images, and the reason that, again, these things don't fly is that overzealous people in the past have abused it, trying to simply selling, grow their business without really contributing to the platform. And as a result, facebook said no to all of that. And those people are always selling or spinning content and groups. I can't tell you how many times I'm running ads for clients and I get some jokers that want to hijack the Adam quicker own Lincoln there. He, that's just spam. No one appreciates it. No one's made any business ever in the history of never by doing that, right?
06:28 Um, it's also important to recognize here that if you promote it, network marketing company, you can't promote it directly on facebook. And again, it's not facebook saying that this is illegal. What facebook is saying is they have enough history of people, head of the views, the platform that they simply said enough is enough. And they've done this in a lot of industries where weight loss, diet products, um, and now network marketing for the past year or so. Now, does that mean that you can't grow a business this way? Of course not because facebook is about creating relationships first, right? Couple of things that are directly from within facebook's ad policies, which you should read it. It's telling you examples of things that are acceptable and things that finds misleading or over the top. So spend some time looking at this stuff. Um, you know, the difference between one crazy tip, the loose weight or tips to lose weight.
07:27 Actually, it's, it's telling you here that tissue to lose weight is preferable to one crazy tip. It just doesn't like the language. It doesn't like the language to anything that looks like it's an over the top app he done in mind wanting conversational. You don't want to be sensational if you haven't been there yet. Make sure you go here and read the facebook ad policies to make sure you are compliant. But above and beyond this, you still must remember that even if it's not within the facebook ad policies, the bottom line is ask yourself, are you contributing to the facebook user experience or are you taking away from it? And if you're taking away from it, you can guarantee it's a matter of time before facebook will come. After that, I wanted to tell people how to get healthy. If you run into trouble, well, if you go to facebook.com, forward slash business forward slash resources, and you scroll to the middle of the page, you're going to find these three options.
08:26 Most of the time, a lot of times chat will not be available. And that's the number one you want to use. It is because that will put you in direct contact at real time chatting with a facebook representative. OK? Uh, if you don't have that option, you want to go ahead and send me an email. And if you go to facebook.com, forward slash health, they will list all the emails and your interaction with facebook. Now, if you have had an ad account shut down, it'll pass this on that same page, those forever, the section where it says, my account was the what can I do, and when you click that, you're going to see these options here and those are the ones that you want to use depending upon what your particular case is, one of those two links will actually get you somewhere that will get you health grant to move on.
09:12 With that said, the question becomes, how do you become besties with facebook? This is significant. Trust me, this is the foundation. Anytime I've ever skip this, it's not been good, so I want to make sure to truly get this part of it. Bottom line is you want to contribute to the user experience. As I mentioned, now this is something that a lot of people don't know about facebook and it's important to understand what does it mean to create a positive user experience, whistles up [inaudible] for a year. Well, the bottom line is you see those three buttons there on the left. Here's what we're talking about. How as a post or an ad measured on facebook or one of three things can happen, it's either going to be positive feedback you get, which means that they liked it, they shared it, they comment, maybe they liked your page, maybe they click the link.
10:01 OK, facebook is paying attention to all of this. This is a positive experience. Now, on the very bottom end of the spectrum, you can have a negative experience. Someone complained about your ad or your posts, they, uh, some one hit the post and I'd want to see this anymore. Or they actually pay for negative experiences in one in the middle, which is no feedback at all. Simply means that a person scrolling your newsfeed and along comes your host. And what do they do at nut? It keeps growing. Well, in the eyes of facebook, facebook sees this as a lost opportunity for placing content in someone's newsfeed. In a perfect world, facebook wants you to engage everything and like everything that you've seen or it. So if you have content that you're constantly posting that's not getting feedback of any kind, facebook considers this lost opportunity.
10:54 OK, and what this means is that I would much rather see you posting one awesome piece of content a week rather than four pieces of a crappy content that no one engages per day. All right? Bottom line contributes to the overall experience. Build a presence that represents you and your business. Connect Sharon, entertain, engage people. That means that when someone comments on your on your coast, if you reply to those, but for opportunities to do that, because what that's actually doing, whether this is on an ad or on your coast, it's tightening that connection between doing that individual and it makes them much more likely to see your future content in their newsfeed. Right? So the question, and this is important, how do you participate as a business on facebook? OK? It can't just be cocktail hour all the time, right? Otherwise, how do you do business?
11:48 Here's the bottom line. You remember how I told you that you want to connect, share, and entertain, right? Because that's why people were there as a business. There's three more steps and this is going to play a role in how you felt a connection with your prospects. You're going to educate them. Now what does this mean? Well, if you're a scuba dive shop, you might want to share with them, hey, here's three tips for how often you should have her equipment service. That's an example of the same instance of the stupid shock you're going to inform that you might want to tell them about something new that's happening in the industry. Bottom line is, is your starting to be perceived as a source of value for whatever the nature of your business as the last thing here is you want to begin inviting them to consume greater levels of value, especially the more affinity that they've developed for you and your personal brand. Then you actually have enough credibility built up where you can say, hey, I'd like to invite you to subscribe to my newsletter to buy my product, a, to jump on a coaching call with me. Whatever the nature of your business is. These are the three things that businesses do in addition to connecting, sharing and entertaining, right? Because the business is always going to be about kittens, puppies and babies on facebook, even though facebook definitely feeds on that.
